Privacy and confidentiality are important. As such, at to be light ministries we protect your written and spoken communications with standards higher than you would even experience with say the medical field or HIPAA. We adhere to the guidelines as suggested by the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and provide the protection you expect as part of the pastoral relationship.
Information will never be disclosed without your written permission and a review of the possible consequences to you and/or your family before any release takes place.
Of course, as state law mandates, exceptions include:
- Suspected child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse. We will inform beforehand that a report needs filing.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, we will notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- If a client intends to harm himself or herself, we will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, we will take further measures without their permission that are provided by law in order to ensure their safety.
